For some atheists, yes. Others, no.

The question itself is a bit strange. What tends to be important to an atheist is to be convinced by sufficient evidence. A specific belief is not the goal, so much as making sure that what we believe is actually true.

When an atheist says that he/she just can't believe in a God, for whatever reason, the problem is not that he/she is not trying hard enough to believe. The problem is that the god claim is not supported by convincing evidence. That is what should be addressed.

Belief, for the most part, is on autopilot, and is not subject to the will.
